Stylists are always telling clients that they should have at least one oxford button down in their wardrobe. You've heard it for years: it's a staple, it goes with anything, it's perfect for every workplace, etc. But since everyone is wearing the oxford shirt, how do you wear it and make it your own?
I'm currently an intern in the corporate world and I have five oxford shirts hanging in the back of my closet. I feel so "blah" when I wear them; like I look like everyone else in the office. How can I stylishly take advantage of these oxford shirts that I already own?

The key is styling it correctly -- knowing which accessories match your personality and understanding which shapes are complimentary to your body. The right fit (especially a blouse or top) can make any piece look expensive, looks cleaner and more professional, and ultimately makes you feel great. Avoid buttons that gap, tailor the hemlines if sleeves or tails are too long, and pay attention to the way your particular oxford fits, because they come in multiple different shapes for different occasions.
I've put together some outfit ideas based on your general shape. So if you've got the same problem with your oxfords shirts, hopefully you can take some inspiration from the following style boards:
I've put together some outfit ideas based on your general shape. So if you've got the same problem with your oxfords shirts, hopefully you can take some inspiration from the following style boards:
petite
When you're small, your goal is oftentimes to appear taller. Petite is defined as any height under 5'3", but can sometimes range into the 5'5" range as well. The key to looking taller (or longer, like with longer arms) is by exposing bits of skin that would normally be covered. Roll up the sleeves of your shirt to right below your elbows. Look for straight leg or cigarette trousers that are cropped right above the ankle. And of course - if you're comfortable - wear stilettos. Even if they're one inch.
curvy
To some extent, all women have some sort of curve. Highlight these curves by wearing fitted clothes. Not tight clothes. Pencil skirts are structured, and if you feel like they're constantly riding up, look for one with a slit for a bit more movement. Look for a fitted oxford that you can tuck in, so you can show off your waist without being too obvious. And if skirts aren't your thing, you can't go wrong with a cropped pant.
tall
When you're tall, you can pull of some shapes that shorter women can't. Skirt that hits at the knee or right below the knee is always flattering on you, and a flirty kick like this one adds some shape if you're on the "athletic" or "rectangle" side. A shirt with a Peter Pan collar and delicate pinstripe give the overall look a feminine touch. Even though you're tall, don't be afraid to wear heels! Especially when you choose a pencil skirt, heels are going to pull the outfit together. Keep the long, sleek look going by finishing off the outfit with a minimalist tote
