Statement jewelry has been all the rage lately, but does it mean anything if everyone is making the same statement?! We've seen a million of these statement pieces:
These types of statement jewelry were cute at one time, but by now they're completely overdone. It's as simple as that. Now, if you already own some of these pieces, I'm not saying throw them out. What I'm suggesting is that you start to invest in a newer jewelry trend.
There are plenty of trends right now, and I put together some of my favorites below for you to browse through. See anything you like? Awesome! Looking for something different that you're not seeing? Tweet me at @MollyInBlack!
Something to keep in mind with jewelry trends: Don't wear everything at once! Matching jewelry is so Golden Girls, and if you overdo too much of the same style, it looks like you're trying too hard. One trendy piece at a time! (Two max -- if they're both small, simple pieces.) Also, you don't have to stick to one trend. Grab a few pieces in each category below! Pick out some other pieces that don't fit into these categories -- the pieces below are ideas, not strict guidelines. Throw your own style in the game.
I just recently started investing in jewelry myself. It was never something I considered that important, until I realized that it can really make or break an outfit. It can take your t-shirt dress or chambray shirt from drab to polished. Some of my favorite places to get jewelry are Francesca's and Charming Charlie's, as you'll see below.

Before investing in jewelry:
- Imagine three things in your closet that you can wear it with. If you can't imagine three outfits that the necklace goes with, it's probably not a good investment.
- If it's more than $20, make sure that it's not too trendy. Investing in jewelry is no cheap task, so trendy pieces don't have to be expensive if you're not going to wear them a year from now.
- Make sure it's your style. Don't buy a pair of earrings because that's what your friends are wearing. The point of jewelry (and all other clothes for that matter) is to express yourself. Don't get lost in the popular shuffle.
