Like I've always said, I love being able to answer fashion questions for my readers. My most recent request is probably very relevant to those of you who are looking for a new fall wardrobe for work:
I'm an elementary teacher and I love the color navy, but I don't know how to style it. It feels like overkill with dark wash jeans, and not quite right with black. I'm shopping for the upcoming school year and want to successfully incorporate navy blue into my wardrobe. Can you help me?

Navy blue! The coveted classic color that we all desperately want to incorporate into our closets, but don't quite know how. Does it go with anything except khaki? Is khaki even cool anymore? Is a navy blue cardigan matronly? Is navy too boring?
Your questions end here. The following outfits will spark some inspiration for your upcoming fall wardrobe, no matter your age or workplace.
the top
- If you're going with a solid navy piece, you can mix it with solids or prints -- the choice is up to you!
- Contrasting loose pieces with tight pieces gives your body shape.
- Blue and black can go together.
the dress
- A color-blocked or printed dress will break up monotony.
- Denim works as a neutral, so feel free to wear it as one! Just keep it to casual settings.
- Keep jewelry simple with prints, or people won't know what to look at. Here, the dress is the star.
layering
- By layering your navy, you have freedom to use a lot more colors and prints.
- Layering can be casual or dressed up, depending on your shoes and accessories.
- Navy acts as a neutral, so don't be afraid to mix new colors! Since navy blue is a "cool" color, warm colors like reds, yellows, pinks, browns and oranges will look best with it.
